I am doing my first race for life in June, so I thought I'd join this community (which I only found by accident, since race for life isn't one of its interests!!).
I'm determined to run some of it, so I'm going to start doing the run-walk training programme from the website tomorrow. I'm hoping to get some motivation and stuff here, and just to meet some other people doing the race!

Its 17 weeks until my race and I’m doing my first timed 5k tomorrow to see where I’m at. I’m going to post each week in my journal about how my training is going but will post a few in here as well especial closer to the date.

I’m all signed up for race for life finally, took a while cos I waiting to find out if my friends were going to take part but they have all changed their minds over the past few weeks and dropped out so I just signed myself up.
I wasn’t going to bother but thought why not, it’s a fun day out and its for a good cause.
I’m doing my 5k run in about 35mins about once every 2 weeks and going to start regular running again when the clocks go back and the nights are lighter.
Good luck to everyone that’s signed up.
Don’t forget to let us know how the training is going!

Race for Life, Gloucester
So today was the big day and after 36mins and a couple of nasty stitches I crossed the finish line. After all the rain we've had, the field was really muddy and wet in patches so I got splattered lots.
Now to collect the rest of the money :)

Race for Life, Epsom
I did my race today and finished in 43 minutes.
I was really impressed with my time as I hadn't done any specific training. I've been playing squash for the last couple of weeks and that's about it. I'm generally ok fitnesswise and do walk places. My friend did it also and due to her illness and pain it took her 1h 22 but she did it and I'm so proud!

Did my race this morning, just posted this in my lj (friends-locked though):
I did the Race for Life this morning and crossed the finish line in 47 minutes, which I didn't think was too bad going. I could have done without the complicated warm-up as I was too hot before I'd even started - next year I'll lounge at the back. I was at the front of the walking group and started a bit fast so had a stich halfway through, but had Depeche Mode on my MP3 player to accompany me. I even jogged the last short leg. Unfortunately this meant my MP3 player, which was stuffed down my bra for lack of anywhere else to put it, fell out and then I dropped my medal in the panic - all turned out OK though. I think all the blood normally in my brain was in my legs! It was really emotional seeing all the labels pinned on people's T-shirts saying who people were running for. A big thanks to everyone who sponsored me online and IRL - if you haven't given me your money yet, please don't forget!

Swim for life!
The Belfast Race for Life was a washout this morning. The rain pelted down and we were all soaked and bedraggled but my friend and I managed to complete the course in 38 minutes which included going up this big giant hill http://www.tourulster.com/stormont.jpg
so we were very proud of ourselves. It was so moving, seeing everyones dedications on their back. I was bawling the minute we arrived! The main thing is I raised £600 in memory of my partners Aunt who died in April of cancer. I think I will do it next year too. Current Mood: accomplished

What is the best time to start jogging outside?
I haven't jogged outside for years and even then I didn't do all that much. I've been thinking about a route to run which is about 2 miles long. However, I dont want to try when it's too hot, or too cold, or too busy! Anyone have any suggestions?
Had a really bad week both with weight watchers and with training for the race.
I only managed one run and it was a short one, only 16mins.
I was feeling really down untill i went onto mapmyrun.com and found out it was 1.7miles!
looks like i might be on target for 3miles in 30mins for the race after all.

So post race running
I was doing ok till winter came back this bank holiday. I went out for a run on sunday morning and it was pouring down and though I do find running in the rain strangly fun by the time i got home I thought I had hypothermia. It was so cold. I spent the rest of the weekend curled up in my duvet.
Running I think is a summer sport.

got a letter from the cancer dudes saying wlel done on raising 39 pounds (cos i paid in my off line sponsor money)
i've actually raised 169, with the online money as well. will theyu not combine the two amounts? or do they really see it as two seperate things? cos that's daft.

I have decided
That even though my race is done I am gonna keep training so next time I will be really speedy.
|Monday, May 21st, 2007|
I also did my race on sunday. I did try and run a bit but my toe kept cramping up which was annoying I had to stop half way round and take my shoe off to see if I could rub some life back into it.
I ended up comming in at at 48min which is a bit of a disapointment but next time I will do better. AT least I ran this time for at least some of it.

had my race today.
i was pleased with that. that was the time i was averaging on tyhe treadmill, but that treadmill didn't include steep hills, which my race did!
my foot is a mass of blisters tho, but i will do it again next year :)
the warm up was fing pointless tho. next year i will go later. i wasted an hour hanging around, watching people piss about!

got my run tomorrow
do not want to do it!
not only cos i've eaten shit for two weeks (birthday) and haven't trained.
but also cos i have a cold and can't breathe properly
i will go, cos i have sponsors and i want a medal :)
but im scared about being stuck at the back and finishing last and being a sad out of breath old fart
those who have done it before, how many people tend to walk? how many wlak REALLY slowly
cos i dont want to be last *cry*

I have my race for life on sunday...
I really wish i had done more training.
I think I will be doing a mixture of walking and jogging.
I doubt I will make it round if I run.
